Cearley Fire Daily Update

August 21, 2023

Size: 500 acres

Containment: 0%

Start Date: August 21, 2023

Cause: Unknown

Around 3:30 p.m. on August 21, Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance on a fire burning 10 miles northeast of Graham in Young County, Texas. The fire is burning in grass brush and timber fuels.

Multiple dozers from Texas A&M Forest Service have worked to construct containment line around the fire as it made several pushes. Engine crews are performing structure protection along with mop-up operations and patrolling the containment lines, aviation resources have been making several retardant drops to slow the head and flanks of the fire giving ground crews more time to construct containment lines.

Weather conditions today will prove challenging to responders as high winds and extreme temperatures will likely increase fire behavior today.
