SLATE FIRE:

5 miles SW of Detroit, OR, 91 Acres, 15 Percent Contained, Total Personnel, 50, Under Investigation

Fire managers continue to stress the importance of aggressively attacking the Slate Fire. Crews have completed a control line around the entire perimeter and reinforced the area with hose and pumps. Today, firefighters will continue to improve control lines, remove hazardous trees, and extinguish hot spots within the perimeter of the fire.

PYRAMID FIRE:

East of Middle Santiam Wilderness, 1,125 Acres, 9 Percent Contained, Total Personnel, 425, Lightning Caused

Yesterday, an inversion trapped smoke and cooler air near the ground, reducing fire activity and allowing firefighters to make good progress improving control lines.  Heavy equipment was used to improve Road 646, and hand crews on the south flank installed additional hose and pumps to reinforce existing control lines. Today, crews will continue to improve existing control lines, look for opportunities to construct direct line, and insert additional hose and pumps on the fire’s edge to help extinguish the fire.

WEATHER: An approaching cold front will bring increasing clouds today and a slight chance of rain on Monday night or Tuesday. A significant amount of rain is unlikely.

SMOKE IMPACTS: Smoke and air quality conditions are available on: AirNow.gov
