Sunny weather made for good working conditions yesterday. Road repair along the north side of the fire and Forest Service Road 5105 is near completion. In other areas of the fire, firefighters spread gravel to repair a private driveway that had sustained damage during suppression efforts and heavy equipment operators placed boulders on Forest Service Road 37 to block access to the previously closed road. Hand crews completed chipping operations on the eastern and southern parts of the fire. Several heavy equipment resources and the remaining helicopter were demobilized after completing the day’s work.
Today, fire managers will assess the quality and completion of work as well as ensuring all remaining equipment and any garbage is removed from control lines and staging areas. Hand crews and an excavator will continue to repair dozer line along the south perimeter including in the area south of China Mountain. With typical cooler fall temperatures and precipitation in the forecast, all fire resources will be completing the last few days’ worth of work and heading home by Sunday.
