Anvil Fire
Size: 22,170 acres Start Date: August 25, 2023 Location: 8 miles east of Port Orford, OR
Containment: 80% Total personnel: 280 Resources: 9 crews, 1 helicopter, 2 engines
Excellent progress in fire suppression repair work was made yesterday due to favorable weather conditions. Excavators engaged in road repair on Forest Service Roads 5105, 0370, and Rocky Peak Road and fire crews completed the repair work in the China Mountain area. Firefighters repaired hand line and completed more chipping of remaining woody fuels. Boulders were delivered to re-close roads that had been opened by firefighters to gain access for fire suppression operations. The Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) infrared mission scouted for remaining hot spots along the eastern perimeter and no heat was detected. Today, fire resources are anticipating a delivery of gravel to spread to repair damages caused by heavy vehicles and firefighting traffic. With work wrapping up, several heavy equipment resources and the remaining helicopter will demobilize this evening.
Flat Fire
Size: 34,242 acres Start Date: July 15, 2023 Location: 2 miles southeast of Agness, OR
Containment: 93% Total personnel: 53 Resources: 1 crew, 4 engines
Yesterday, crews continued to spread straw on the repaired trail systems as an erosion mitigation strategy. Today, the UAS will move from the Anvil Fire to the Flat Fire and will scout portions of the southern fire perimeter that lack control lines, looking to identify and map any heat sources close to the fire edge.
Emergency Fire Area and Road Closures Still in Effect: Forest closures remain in place in both fire areas. For current closure information and maps, please visit: https://bit.ly/RRSNFAlerts or https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/incident-closures/orrsf-anvil-fire.
Restrictions: The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest lifted all Public Use Restrictions on Forest Service
Lands. The Fire Danger Rating and Industrial Fire Precaution Levels were removed from all five Ranger Districts on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, signaling the end of fire season, effective midnight, October 17. Emergency road and area closures are still in effect in fire areas (see above).
Weather: Temperatures will be in the low 70s today and drying will continue through Friday until another system bringing light precipitation moves into the area over the weekend. The extended forecast shows a progressive pattern of alternating days of warm, dry weather followed by more rain.
