Microwave Tower Fire Update, Saturday, 08-03-2024

Microwave Tower Fire
Publication Type: News - 08/03/2024 - 11:49

Size: 1,311 acres

Start Date: July 22, 2024

Cause: Undetermined

Location: 5 miles west of Mosier, OR

Containment:  84%

Fuels: Brush, timber, and grass

Highlights:

Crews are making excellent progress toward containment. Fire operations were able to fly over the fire yesterday. They saw minimal, isolated hot spots within the interior and confirmed the fire is staying within its current footprint. Northern Rockies Complex Incident Management Team 2 has arrived and will be shadowing with the Central Cascade Interagency Management Team then taking over Whisky Creek Fire on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Operations:

Yesterday, along Old Hwy 30, crews continued to put out remaining hot spots. On the western and eastern edges of the fire, crews strengthened the fire line where safe to work. Crews continue to monitor and patrol the remaining fire perimeter

Today, crews will continue to strengthen all fire lines and work to increase containment from Old Hwy 30 to I-84 while ensuring the entire perimeter stays secure.

Fire Behavior and Weather:

On shore winds move back into the area today. Cloud cover is expected and will minimize fire behavior. The fire will continue to produce smoke in areas firefighters are unable to access due to terrain. Drivers are asked to please use caution on Interstate 84 as firefighters are still working in the area.
