Superior NF Closure Update for the Brimson Fires
The Brimson Forest closure area is reduced. Jenkins Creek fire closure is reduced in size. Camp House fire closure is reduced to Salo Lake site.
Duluth, MN. May 23, 2025 — The Superior National Forest (SNF) has updated the boundary and select recreation sites of the Emergency Closure Forest Order for the ‘Brimson Complex’ fires (Camp House & Jenkins Creek). The Camp House fire (currently 90% containment) focuses the closure area on specific recreation sites affected by the fire. The Jenkins Creek fire closure area allows the firefighters and equipment to continue to work towards containment (currently 47% containment). This update applies to Emergency Forest Closure Order 09-09-25-05 and is effective as of May 23, 12:01am CT.
Fire suppression work continues on both the Jenkins Creek and Camp House wildfires. PLEASE do not drive through the area to view the fire areas. Heavy equipment, fire engines and firefighters on foot are still in the area working to make it safe.
The updated closure continues to prohibit visitor entry at campsites, recreation sites, trails, roads and lakes in the Jenkins Creek and Camp House fire areas, see the Forest Order Exhibit A for a list of specific closure areas and Exhibit B for a map of the area. Roads and recreation areas remaining closed include:
- From FR 113 South to FR 120 (Skibo Rd)
- From FR 120 (Skibo Rd) West to St. Louis County Road 569
- From St. Louis Country Road 569 West to St. Louis County Road 110

The Forest Service has notified Recreation.gov reservation holders, concessionaires, and is encouraging those with reservations in the area to seek an alternate area of the Superior National Forest for similar experiences. The emergency closure is necessary for the safety of our visitors, area residents and our firefighters.
Beyond the closure for the Brimson Complex Fires, the Superior National Forest is open to the public and no other restrictions apply.
