2023 - York Fire
Publication Type: News 07/30/2023
The York fire remains at 0% containment. Fire crews were challenged with heavy winds today which caused the York Fire to rapidly spread to the north, covering considerable distances in a short amount of time. Durning such events, crews worked diligently to adjust strategies and tactics to adapt to the changing conditions.
Fire crews will be working throughout the night to continue creating containment lines. While this is demanding for the crews, their dedication and efforts to work tirelessly to contain the fire is commendable.
Additionally, yesterday during the initial attack phase of the York Fire, due to the wind-driven, extreme fire behavior, three structures were destroyed. These structures include the unoccupied, National Park Service owned Kousch House in Caruthers Canyon, which was eligible but not listed on the National Register of Historic Places; and two smaller non-dwelling structures. There remains a threat to additional structures in the area. Firefighters will prioritize the protection of property when safe to do so.
