When a wildfire enters this type of dense forest, trees can catch on fire underground. This causes completely green trees to fall with little to no warning, posing significant safety threats.

Yesterday’s smoke rising off the Coal Creek drainage. The most active portion of the fire yesterday was from Coal Creek toward the Three Peaks trail (in the interior of the fire footprint).
