Yesterday, crews were able to isolate the remaining hotspots along the fireline, extinguishing them within 100’ to 400’ of the line.  Containment has been complete on the fire and crews disassembled hose lays, pumps and other firefighting apparatus to return to cache.  Crews will focus on rehabilitation and patrol, before demobilizing and returning to home districts or reassignment to other fires in the area.  A smaller team (type 4 organization) will continue on the incident into next week, focusing on continued patrol of the fireline, as well as complete any additiona

Yesterday, PalmIR units, working with crews, have nearly traversed the fireline, helping crews to discover and extinguish existing smoldering stump holes and subterranean burning material.  Suppression repair has begun at the south end of the fire, with crew creating water bars and other appropriate mitigations on non-primary hand and dozer lines.  Crews began dismantling and backhaul of unneeded hose lays and portable water tanks.

Yesterday, crews continued making progress identifying and falling hazard trees along local roads and the fire line.  Crews have been working with Palm IR units on the eastern and western flanks, helping them to identify remaining smoldering material that could threaten containment and extinguishing them.

Yesterday, infrared technology (Palm IR unit) was utilized to search for smoldering material on the south end of the fire.  The unit found 3 spots within 50 feet of the line, verifying that the line is becoming secure and containment is increasing.  Crews have utilized 7.5 miles of hose and 10 pumps in containment processes around the fire perimeter.  Fallers evaluated and fell fire weakened trees along 4th of July Creek Road to help mitigate against trees threatening to fall into the roadway.

Yesterday, moderate fire behavior continued in the swales on the northeast of the fire (around Upper Danville Road), exhibiting visible smoke and some observed observable flames during minor torching. This activity remains within the interior and is not a threat to established fire lines. Crews have established over 2 miles of hose lay on the west side of the fire (near Big Goosmus Road), helping crews extinguish existing smoldering material along the fire line.

Yesterday, fire behavior remained moderate as the cold front system passed over the fire area.  Areas of smoke within the fire interior reflected fuels that were partially burned during the initial spread of the fire and are continuing to consume (referred to as a dirty burn).  Crews are making good progress along the fire line, searching for remaining smoldering or burning areas (often stump holes or thick vegetative areas) that could compromise the line.  Skidgens (modified skidders to haul water) are being utilized to access difficult areas, bringing water to crews t

Yesterday, crews were able to completely line the fire with direct or indirect lines.  Additional burnout operations were successful in several areas, helping to secure areas by burning vegetation between the line and fire front.  Falling operations along Highway 21 were successful in removing fire weakened trees that directly threatened the highway and utilities. Structure protection units evaluated residential and outbuildings surrounding the north end of the fire, mitigating hazards where available.  A contingency dozer line was established along the north end o
