Williams Mine Fire Update for Sunday, September 15, 2024 After the Williams Mine Fire was ignited by lightning on August 5, a coordinated effort was made to stop the fire’s spread, especially toward private land and the community of Trout Lake. This included preparing control lines, applying water by air and on the ground, and cutting hazard trees, many of them snags from the Cascade Creek Fire of 2012 and the Cougar Creek Fire of 2015.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Saturday, September 14, 2024 The weather was warmer and drier on Friday, but the Williams Mine Fire remained quiet. Light rain fell overnight, with more possible over the weekend. This is not expected to be a wetting rain, but will help cool remaining heat.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Thursday, September 12, 2024Although the Williams Mine Fire did not get much rain Wednesday, higher humidity and cooler temperatures kept fire activity down. Similar weather is expected for several more days. Fire personnel continue to monitor the fire for hot areas, but are also able to make progress on repair work that needs to be done on roads and dozer lines before the fall rains arrive.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Wednesday, September 11, 2024 Tuesday was another quiet day on the Williams Mine Fire, despite sunshine and periods with low relative humidity. The main area of concern, in the Morrison Creek drainage west of the South Climb Trailhead, showed minimal growth. Fire personnel continued to patrol and mop up on the fire’s edges, and worked on repairing damage caused by the suppression efforts.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Tuesday, September 10, 2024Monday, skies were clear over the Williams Mine Fire except for some scattered high-elevation clouds. Taking advantage of the good visibility, a Type 1 Chinook, a Type 2 “Medium” helicopter, and a smaller Type 3 helicopter resumed water drops on the fire west of the South Climb Trailhead. Resources on the ground worked on removing more of the fuels along the access road and near the trailhead in preparation for fire reaching this area.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Sunday, September 8, 2024 A smoky haze continued to hang over the Williams Mine Fire area on Saturday. This smoke shading resulted in another day of moderated fire activity despite poor relative humidity recovery (RH) at night. The smoke is expected to persist today, but conditions may improve as winds shift to coming from the west to northwest. Slightly cooler temperatures and better humidity recovery at night are expected to help keep the fire activity at a moderate level.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Saturday, September 7, 2024 The Red Flag Warning has been extended for the Williams Mine Fire area. This warning will remain in effect until 8:00 p.m. today. The warning was issued due to continued low relative humidity and unstable atmospheric conditions which may lead to rapid fire growth. There is also a Heat Advisory through 9:00 p.m. today.
