Location: An approximately 300-acre section of the Porters Mill burn area will be burned in preparation for burning the larger unit later this spring. The area is located four miles southeast of Hot Springs and four miles north of Douthat State Park.

Location: The northern 40-acre sub-unit of the Tri-County prescribed burn unit includes portions of Green Pastures Recreation Area and is located two tenths of a mile southeast of I-64 in Alleghany County.

Location: This prescribed burn includes sub-units two and four of the Kelly Flats burn area, totaling 190 acres. It is located north of Big Stony Road (State Route 635), northwest of the Glen Alton Recreation Area and north of the town of Interior in Giles County. Date and Time: The Forest Service plans to begin ignitions on Friday, March 4, 2022, if weather conditions are appropriate. Firefighters will continue to monitor the area for several days after the burn.

Forest Service to Conduct Prescribed Burns in the Clinch Ranger District

NORTON, VA -February 28, 2022 — The USDA Forest Service will begin conducting prescribed burns near communities of Appalachia, Pound, Big Stone Gap, and Exeter, in Wise County, VA and Jenkins in Letcher County, KY as soon as next month, March 2022. Prescribed burns help keep the public and homes safe by reducing buildup of dried leaves and woody debris that lies in nearby forest land, which can lead to uncontrolled wildfires if not maintained and reduced.
