Rum Creek Fire quietMERLIN, Ore. – Monday was another quiet day on the Rum Creek Fire, with no increase in size and containment rising to 80%. The light rain Sunday night and Monday morning helped cool the fire, reducing the amount of residual heat. Today, fire personnel continue to patrol the fire’s perimeter, finding scattered hot spots and extinguishing them. They are also pulling hose lays and other surplus equipment, and hauling them back to camp near Merlin.

Rum Creek Fire passes the weather testMERLIN, Ore. – The Rum Creek Fire has now been tested by several days of critically low relative humidity, high temperatures, and periods of gusty winds. Few flare-ups were reported and no spot fires were found outside the containment lines. Acreage has not changed for two days, and containment has increased to 69% despite the adverse weather.
 The Rum Creek Fire remains at 21,347 acres, jumping to 75% containment. This week, Josephine County will experience a reprieve from critical fire weather with forecasts calling for cooler temperatures, higher relative humidity, and possible showers tonight. Showers will help increase the moisture content of fine fuels, but larger fuels will require more substantial precipitation. Reports indicate non-residents are still moving beyond road closures.

*Update: Closure at Galice Rd and Crow Rd has been moved west to Galice Rd and Hog Rd Road closures still in place at Rum Creek Fire MERLIN, Ore. – While evacuation levels have been reduced near the Rum Creek Fire, road closures are still in place. Only residents (must show proof of residency) are allowed past the roadblocks.
