Much of the perimeter has been mopped in 200 feet. Tomorrow’s forecast will include a chance of rain.
Chiloquin, Ore. – Crews continued their progress in mop up and building containment. Work around structures continues, bringing the depth to 200 feet around homes and structures. With the difficult terrain on Corbell Butte making for slower work, there is still some heat near the fire lines. The rest of the cool fire line is at 75 to 100 feet deep. With this continued success, containment increased to 77%.
Chiloquin, Ore. – The recent thunderstorms produced some fire starts north of the Copperfield Fire. Crews are being diverted to assist in initial attack on the new fires. In addition, resources will began transitioning to other fires throughout the state, helping in their efforts as resources are limited due to wildfires across the state.Containment increased to 68%.
Chiloquin, Ore. – Work done on the Copperfield Fire proved successful at holding containment through Red Flag warnings yesterday. During the night shift the IR flight detected a single hot spot which surfaced with the increase of wind. Night crews were able to focus efforts on the heat. Crews continued their success in expanding the perimeter depth of the fire in previously burned areas (black line) that are now cold and being mopped up. Containment increased to 57%.
Chiloquin, Ore. – Predicted weather was moderate, allowing crews the opportunity to increase containment, particularly in the areas where there are nearby structures. Overnight, infrared drones identified a few hot spots on the east side of the fire and crews were able to find them and mop up quickly. Crews continued to expand the perimeter depth of the fire in previously burned areas (black line) that are now cold and being mopped up. Overall, containment increased to 43%.
Chiloquin, Ore. – Yesterday and last night, fire crews expanded the cold black perimeter of the fire, extending hose lines and cooling hot spots along the fire line to achieve 26% containment. Most of the fire growth was due unburnt pockets consuming fuels within the fire lines to assist in containment. Hot spots putting up smoke are still visible within the footprint of the fire, which is being addressed by aircraft water drops as well as crews working further into the main fire.  The goal for containment is 100’ feet around the perimeter.
Chiloquin, Ore. – Work to clear hazardous trees along the Sprague River Highway was completed yesterday. The highway was opened to the public at a reduced speed at 5:00 a.m. this morning. Motorists are advised to continue to exercise caution when driving through the area due to increased fire traffic in the area. School bus operations were allowed to operate with the opening of the road.
