NEW BERN, N.C., May 18, 2025 – This will be the last daily update for the Black Swamp Fire on the Croatan National Forest. Firefighters on the Black Swamp continue steadily increasing containment. The fire remains at 950-acre footprint, with 87% containment and 67 personnel.

NEW BERN, N.C., May 17, 2025 – Firefighters on the Black Swamp Fire on the Croatan National Forest have achieved 85% containment. The fire remains at 950-acre footprint. A team of 84 personnel from several agencies are currently assigned to the fire.

NEW BERN, N.C., May 16, 2025 – Firefighters on the Black Swamp Fire on the Croatan National Forest have achieved 83% containment. The fire remains at 950-acre footprint. A team of 88 personnel from several agencies are currently assigned to the fire.

NEW BERN, N.C., May 15, 2025 – Firefighters on the Black Swamp Fire on the Croatan National Forest have achieved 80% containment. The fire remains at 950-acre footprint. A team of 88 personnel from several agencies are currently assigned to the fire.

NEW BERN, N.C., May 14, 2025 – The Black Swamp Fire on the Croatan National Forest is now 77% contained and remains at 950 acres. An interagency team of 99 personnel are currently assigned to the fire. 

NEW BERN, N.C., May 13, 2025 – Firefighters on the Black Swamp Fire in the Croatan National Forest have achieved 75% containment. The fire remains 950 acres. An interagency team of 102 personnel are currently assigned to the fire.The public is reminded to abide by all posted closures keeping firefighter and public safety in mind. Closures remain in effect for Black Swamp Road, the Black Swamp OHV area, Great Lake Boating Access Area and Sheep Ridge Wilderness Area, as well as portions of Great Lake Road, Seaborn Road and Holston Hunter Road.
