November 4, 2024 Pile Burn Update 11-04-2024

Conditions permitting, several districts on the Lolo National Forest are planning to conduct pile burning today to reduce the fuel loading created from previous management operations.Missoula Ranger District: Firefighters will continue pile burning up to 66 acres, 3.5 miles northwest of Lolo Hot Springs off  Forest Road 33 at the junction of Wagon Mountain Road and Howard Creek Road. Smoke may be visible from Highway 12 and Lolo Hot Springs.

Missoula Ranger District: Firefighters will continue pile burning up to 40 acres, 3.5 miles northwest of Lolo Hot Springs off  Forest Road 33 at the junction of Wagon Mountain Road and Howard Creek Road. Smoke may be visible from Highway 12 and Lolo Hot Springs. Superior Ranger District:

Pile burning will continue today across the Lolo National Forest. Pile burning reduces the amount of fuels that are available to burn, lowering a wildfire’s intensity and reducing risks to firefighters and communities, a key component of the Wildfire Crisis Strategy.

Yesterday was a successful day of prescribed fire operations across many of our districts, work will continue today and throughout the rest of this week, pending conditions. Plains/Thompson Falls Ranger District:  Prescribed fire operations will continue on the River Road East Fire piles located near Pats Knob west of Paradise.  Smoke may be visible from Paradise, Knowles, Quinns, Highway 200 and Highway 135.

Pile burning efforts will continue today across the Lolo National Forest to reduce hazardous fuels from previous vegetation management operations. Seeley Lake Ranger District: Seeley Lake Ranger District: Firefighters will conduct up to 2 acres of pile burning on the Morrell Falls project area located 8 miles north of Seeley Lake. Smoke may be visible from Seeley Lake and Highway 83.

Conditions permitting, several districts on the Lolo National Forest are planning to conduct pile burning today to reduce the fuel loading created from previous management operations.Superior Ranger District: Firefighters will conduct up to 20 acres of prescribed fire operations on the Green Breen Timber Sale/Grapple Piles project, located 7 miles north of Cabin City in the 12 Mile Creek drainage.
Prescribed Fire Pile Burning Update 10-25-2024

Pile burning operations will continue today on the Superior Ranger District 7 miles southeast of Superior in the Pierson Creek drainage. Fire managers will burn up to 20 acres of landing piles. The piles are a result from previous management operations on the Lost Creek Timber Sale.  Smoke may be visible from Superior.More information on prescribed fire: https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/lolo/fire.
Pile burning operations will begin today and will continue as conditions allow through the fall across the Lolo National Forest. 
Pending favorable conditions, the Seeley Lake Ranger District plans to conduct prescribed pile burning to reduce hazardous fuels and restore healthy forest conditions and wildlife habitat. Pile burn operations will take place in the Westside Bypass project area, Seeley Campgrounds, Seeley Lake Ranger District Office, Monture and Guard Station.  Operations could begin as soon as October 28th, 2024.
The Lolo National Forest, along with their interagency partners and neighbors, is preparing to implement fall prescribed fire projects across the forest. Prescribed fire is part of the Forest’s annual fire management program to reduce hazardous fuels, improve wildlife forage, and create conditions which minimize impacts from future wildfires around our communities.
