OLA, Idaho, September 11, 2024 – The Lava Fire continued to exhibit highly active behavior yesterday. On Monday, September 9th, the Lava Fire merged with the Boulder Fire for a combined acreage of 78,457 acres. Yesterday morning, the Southern Area Red Team, a Complex Incident Management Team (CIMT), was in-briefed by Wyoming Team 6, the type 3 team currently managing the Lava Fire. The Southern Area Red CIMT will take command of the fire on Thursday morning.

OLA, Idaho, September 10, 2024 – Extreme fire behavior continued on the Lava Fire yesterday. The fire is now approximately 69,658 acres and has merged with the Boulder Fire to the east, for a combined acreage of 78,457 acres.

OLA, Idaho, September 8, 2024 – Extreme fire behavior resulted in significant and rapid growth in all directions today on the Lava Fire. The fire is now approximately 30,000 acres in size. Firefighting personnel and resources had to evacuate the area this morning due to rapid fire spread. The incident management team and all firefighters have since relocated. All personnel are safe and accounted for.Damage of structures is being assessed by fire managers and the county sheriff’s office.

OLA, Idaho, September 8, 2024 – The Lava Fire was first reported on September 2 at 11:20 p.m. and is currently 2,493 acres in size. The lightning-caused fire is burning in heavy timber, brush and grass approximately 9 miles north of Ola, Idaho, in the Chief Eagle Eye Creek Drainage. Firefighting resources include multiple fire engines, air resources, dozers and multiples hand crews, with 191 personnel currently assigned to the fire. Additional resources have also been ordered.
Lava Fire Transitions to Type 3 Incident Management Team 09-08-2024

OLA, Idaho, September 7, 2024 – Wyoming Team 6, a Type 3 Incident Management Team, took command of the Lava Fire at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7. The lightning-caused fire was first reported on September 2 at 11:20 p.m. and is currently 1,611 acres in size, burning in heavy timber, brush and grass approximately 9 miles north of Ola, Idaho, in the Chief Eagle Eye Creek Drainage.
