Little Mesa Fire Update Friday, August 11, 2023   Location: Approx. 15 miles west, southwest of Delta, CO, Dominguez Escalante National Conservation Area Discovered: July 31, 2023, 11:00 AM Cause: Lightning Estimated Size: 433 acres Vegetation Type: Pinyon, Juniper, sagebrush, grass Containment: 0% Strategy: Full Suppression Total Personnel: 76  

Fire activity was reduced more than expected by last night's precipitation and increased humidity. Firefighters held the line at Tatum Ridge Rd in Div A. Attempts were made to perform aerial ignitions using Unmanned Aircraft Systems in Div Z but conditions were too wet. Another attempt will be made when conditions permit. Crews spent today cleaning up unburnt fuel on the west side in Division A and finalized the aerial firing plan in Division Z. They observed active fire behavior with group torching and some short-range spotting into the canyon. August 9, 2023 – 8 PM – Firefighters were able to hold fire along the Tatum Ridge Road, protect values at risk and scout area. Little Mesa Fire had increased fire activity today. The fire was transferred over to a Type 3 organization tonight.
