Oak Ridge Fire

The Rocky Mountain Area Complex Incident Management Team 3 assumed management of the Oak Ridge Fire at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 26.

The Oak Ridge fire was detected on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Forest Service resources responded and began scouting locations where firefighters could safely access the fire. Air resources aggressively worked to slow down the fire’s progression until they could get resources on the ground. The number one priority is always and continues to be firefighter and public safety.

Evacuations: Please see Pueblo County Sheriff's Office for current evacuations and pre-evacuations, as well as shelter information.

Significant Events

The fire is exhibiting moderate behavior with wind driven winds, group torching and spotting. 
 

Fire is mainly wind and terrain driven. Upslope and updrainage are common when winds and slope align.  Spotting is occurring when torching is present. Very steep terrain, with limited access for personnel and equipment.

Outlook
Planned Actions

Construct indirect line in Divisions Alpha, Kilo, and Uniform. Continue with structure prep, expanding out of the Beulah area into the North Creek. Continue to look for areas to place contingency lines.

Projected Incident Activity

In the next 24 hour period, moderate fire behavior is expected due to higher humidity and lower winds. Chances of lightning are estimated at 70%. In the next 48 hour period, active fire behavior is expected to increase with lower humidity and higher winds. Chance of lightning is 50%.

Weather Concerns

Isolated showers and some thunderstorms are expected to develop after 1500 hours Saturday and be off and on throughout the night. Expect up to 60 MPH downdrafts and frequent lightning. Additional storms are expected Sunday with erratic strong winds and lightning. After Sunday, we expect a drying period throughout the next week and a return to active fire behavior by next Friday.
