Single Incident Information

Since May 29th, the Klamath National Forest has had several days where thunderstorms brought lightning to various parts of the forest. The total number of lightning fires reported as of June 18th is 16, the largest of which was contained at 1.4 acres. Scattered precipitation was received with the storms.

Spring lightning fires thus far:

Detected May 29- 

• Willow Fire, Goosenest Ranger District (RD) west side of Willow Creek Mountain, .25 acres (ac), called out
• Burney Fire, Happy Camp RD 2 miles south of Norcross Campground, less than .1 ac, patrol status

• Cold Fire, Goosenest RD northwest side of Willow Creek Mountain, .2 ac, called out

Detected June 8-

• Four Fire, Goosenest RD near Tennant, .1 ac, contained and controlled
• Hilt Fire, Happy Camp/Oak Knoll RD near Hilt, .1 ac, contained
• Bumblebee, Happy Camp/Oak Knoll RD, .1 ac, called out
• Gravel Fire, Goosenest RD near Tennant, .1 ac, called out             
• Mt Hebron Fire, Goosenest RD near Mt Hebron, .1 ac, called out
• Blue Fire, Goosenest RD, .1 ac, crews on scene, called out
• Pit Fire, Goosenest RD, .1 ac, called out
• Sister Fire, Goosenest RD, .1 ac, called out
• Dairy Fire, Happy Camp Oak Knoll District, .25 ac, called out

• Glass Fire, Goosenest District, near Little Glass Mountain, .1 acres, called out

Detected June 15

• Cedar Fire, Goosenest District, northwest side of Cedar Mountain, .1 acres, called out

Reconnaissance flights to detect additional fires have been occurring over the forest regularly and will continue for the next several days. Additionally, Klamath National Fire Lookouts are staffed for the season.

Lightning causes about 80% of the wildfires on the Klamath National Forest. The other 20% are caused from things like mowing when it’s dry, unattended debris burns, and campfires that have not been extinguished. Please do your part to prevent wildfires.
