The Three Lakes Fire was located approximately 6 miles south of the Jacob Lake area between Forest Road 217 and State Route 67. This lightning-caused wildfire is fulfilling it's role in the ecosystem: burning naturally to reduce fuel loads and promote healthy landscapes.
The Three Lakes Fire burned at a low rate of spread within the 2006 Warm Fire scar and within the planned Sink Hole and Jackson prescribed burn units within the five year plan and adjacent to the Three Lakes prescribed burn unit planned for this year, an area which has already received preparation for fire containment.
Occasional light smoke and possible fire may be visible as larger stumps and dead-and-down materials on the forest floor burn and smolder away.
