Summary of Wednesday's Operations
Crews were able to hold the line on the north end of the fire where they had burned out vegetation ahead of the fire the previous day. Near structures, firefighters set out sprinkler systems and placed temporary storage tanks near homes to hold additional water. Dozers began blading lines near homes to clear away vegetation and make the buildings more defendable.
Today's Operations
Night crews working the fire last evening noted the most active fire areas, and that information is critical in today’s operational planning. The north perimeter of the fire showed little growth and was less active than the southern end near The Chimneys and Mountain Shadows. The Incident Management Team has been preparing for increased fire behavior in this area due to weather, terrain, and predicted fire behavior. To best protect structures, crews will cut more dozer line, conduct burnout operations, and continue to set up sprinkler systems adjacent to homes and other values at risk
Today's Weather
A red flag warning is in effect for the local area again today, including gusty winds and low humidity. The weather should be mostly sunny with highs in the mid-80s and humidity below 20%. Winds are expected out of the southwest at 5-10 mph. There is a chance of isolated thunderstorms and rain showers later this evening.

Issued by Carbon County, Wyoming:
On Tuesday, August 27, Carbon County Officials completed property assessments within the Pedro Mountain fire area to document any structures lost since the fire began on August 24.They determined four structures were lost as a result of the fire, ranging from outbuildings to permanent or seasonal homes. The agencies have notified all property owners that have lost structures. Any homeowner that does not receive a direct notification should note their structures have NOT been lost by the fire to date.
The Carbon County Fire Department is seeking permission from each property owner within the fire’s perimeter for fire crews to establish containment lines on individual lots. This consent is required of each private property owner, including those that own homes or land within Pedro Mountain Estates, Pedro Mountain Ranch Road, and the Cardwell Ranch. With direct consent from landowners, the Incident Management Team and associated fire personnel can better protect structures by cleaning away vegetation through a variety of methods, including mechanical thinning, burnout operations, or building dozer or grader containment lines. This may also reduce the fire’s intensity or encroachment towards buildings. While the permission does not guarantee safety against fire loss, the actions will greatly improve the likelihood the property will be defendable.
All property owners within the fire’s perimeter should email the Carbon County Fire Warden at johnrutherford@carbonwy.com.

Wednesday August 28 Fire Update

Publication Type: News
Summary of Tuesday's Operations
Fire personnel completed a productive burnout operation yesterday along the north perimeter in anticipation of a predicted wind shift that is expected to move the fire in that direction. An assortment of aircraft was used to support work, including medium-sized and single engine air tankers, scoopers, and helicopters. Crews worked on structure protection and contingency planning if the fire moves into a flat, grassy area south of the current perimeter.
Today's Operations
Firefighters are faced with a red flag warning that includes increased winds and temperatures along with very low humidity. The main objective for today is to secure the edges, including those created during yesterday’s burnout operation, and actively provide protection to structures and other values at risk.

Tuesday August 27 Fire Update
Related Incident:
Publication Type: News
Summary of Monday's Operations
The Incident Command Team and incoming resources were able to thoroughly evaluate the area after Sunday’s wind-driven fire run, efficiently placing resources in key locations based on the knowledge learned from the assessment. Aerial resources, including helicopters and air scoopers, assisted crews working on the ground to hold the fire and continue structure protection. Yesterday’s aerial flights allowed the Incident Management Team to provide a more accurate acreage and outline a detailed perimeter.
Tuesday's Operations
Fire personnel will use today’s favorable weather conditions to prepare for increased fire activity in the coming days as wind and temperatures rise. Crews and air support will strategically allow the fire to slowly approach downhill from the higher, rocky areas in order to establish more “black line” (burned vegetation) adjacent to the grass and sage-covered flats that can quickly carry fire. This will provide for firefighter safety and allow crews to better protect structures when the predicted winds shift to out of the southwest in the next few days. This will also reduce the potential for the fire to spot out of the timber into the flats in the coming weeks and safely allow the public to access areas closer to the fire’s perimeter.
