Location: South of O’Brien Mountain near Lake Shasta

Percent Contained: 10%

Shasta McCloud Management Unit (Mt Shasta and McCloud area)

 

The Obsidian Fire was reported 7/27/2020 located near Forest Road 49 and Timber Hill in the northeastern portion of the Shasta-Trinity NF. This fire is 0.1 acres and is contained.

Current Fire Situation: Lightning storms moving through the in late July have ignited several fires. Forest officials and firefighters closely monitor and respond to these fires and aerial reconnaissance flights will often be used to determine potential growth activity of the fires and develop appropriate response activity. The reconnaissance flights are part of our normal operating plan after lightning storms.

The Salmon Fire was reported on July 27 near Salmon Mountain in the northwest corner of the Trinity Alps. It has grown to 550 acres and helicopter crew members, hand crews, and smokejumpers are at the incident. The Hatchet Fire was reported on July 27 near Hatchet Creek northwest of Trinity Center and is less than 1/10 acre. The Pine Fire is near Little Boulder Creek west of Coffee Creek and is 2 acres. Forward spread has been stopped on both the Bridge and Hatchet Fires.

All fires from the lightning storms on July 22 are now contained. In Trinity County, the Graves, Rush, and Oak Fires are called out. The Kinney Fire is in patrol status. In Siskiyou County, the Zot Fire is now out.

 

The main objectives for today are to:

-        Protect health and safety of Public and Responders.

-        Prioritize fire response based on values at risk, and resources available.

-        Provide accurate information to news, public, and cooperators.

The Salmon Fire is now estimated at 220 acres near the Salmon Mountain in the northwest corner of the Trinity Alps Wilderness.

 The Salmon Fire was reported on July 27, near Salmon Mountain at the top of the Eightmile Creek Drainage. The fire is approximately 5.5 acres and there are Tahoe Helicopter crew members at scene.

Current Fire Situation: 
All fires from the lightning storms on July 22 are now contained. In Trinity County, the Graves Fire is called out. The Kinney Fire is in patrol status. Mop up continues on the Rush and Oak Fires. In Siskiyou County, mop up continues on the Zot Fire.  
 
Today a Red Flag Warning will be in effect on the eastern and northern sections of the Shasta-Trinity NF for thunderstorms and strong winds. The Shasta-Trinity NF has additional resources positioned across the Forest to support fire responses.  


The main objectives for today are to:

Protect health and safety of Public and Responders. 
Prioritize fire response based on values at risk, and resources available. 
Provide accurate information to news, public, and cooperators.

Area Closures: There are currently no closures. The Oak Fire is now contained, but there will be ongoing firefighting and aviation operations in the Oak Flat area of Stuart Fork Trail until the fire is called out.

Forest officials and firefighters closely monitor and respond to these fires and aerial reconnaissance flights will often be used to determine potential growth activity of the fires and develop appropriate response activity. The reconnaissance flights are part of our normal operating plan after lightning storms.

In Northern Trinity County, the Graves Fire was controlled and out in the evening of July 24, 2020. The Kinney Fire is contained and in patrol status. Rush Fire is contained and firefighters are continuing mop up. Oak Fire is contained and firefighters are continuing mop up.

In Siskiyou County, Zot Fire is 80% contained and mop up continues. During mop up firefighters are searching the area of the fire for remaining hot spots to extinguish. 

There is a fire weather watch in the area due to projected thunderstorms and lightning Sunday evening. On Monday a Red Flag Warning will be in effect on the eastern side of the Shasta-Trinity NF for thunderstorms and strong winds. The Shasta-Trinity NF has additional resources positioned across the Forest to support fire responses.

Stuart Fork Trailhead Advisory Lifted

Rush Fire is contained and firefighters are continuing mop up. Oak Fire is 80% contained and firefighters continue to implement tactics to reach full containment.

In Siskiyou County, Zot Fire is 80% contained and mop up continues.

Area Closures: There are currently no closures. Hikers, campers, and horseback riders please be advised there is a fire at Oak Flat, about three miles up trail from the Stuart Fork Trailhead in the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Please avoid the area due to ongoing firefighting and aviation operations. Helicopters will be flying over the area today.
