Burns Creek Update 8822 800pm
Related Incident: Burns Creek Fire
Publication Type: Announcement
The Burns Creek Fire is 60% contained at 397.8 acres. Forward progression of the fire is stopped. The Northern edge of the fire perimeter reached Sommerville Lake and self extinguished, and all flanks have dozer line built around them. On Monday significant heat was still observed in the fire interior, and pockets of grass, and leaf litter caused flare-ups in the afternoon. Aviation utilized to help cool hot spots and containment line included 4 "Fireboss" air tankers which scooped water from Sommerville lake, as well as a large type-1 helicopter used for pinpointing areas of heat. Thunderstorm activity occurred in the vicinity once again today, causing shifting and erratic winds.
2 residential structures and 3 outbuildings are confirmed loss as of August 8th. The cause of this fire remains under investigation. All evacuations are now lifted and all residents on Schulenburg Ln are allowed to return. Power has been restored by Bluebonnet Electric. The fire will be staffed overnight and all resources will return on Tuesday. Please be careful driving in the vicinity of the fire, and be aware smoke may be visible for days. Do not operate watercraft near aircraft or the fire and do not fly drones near wildfires.

INCIDENT INFORMATION
Unified Command: Six Rivers National Forest, CAL FIRE, California Highway Patrol, Trinity County Sheriff, and Humboldt County Sheriff.
CURRENT CONDITIONS
The Lightning Complex Fire is currently 16,924 acres with 15% containment. 1,810 personnel are assigned to the incident. USFS, CAIIMT 11 and CAL FIRE continue to work closely together in a unified command with a full suppression strategy to protect homes and other structures, communities, crucial infrastructure, and important wildlife habitat.
Last night fire activity was minimal, with occasional spot fires along the southern edges of the Ammon Fire and southeastern edge of the Campbell fires that firefighters quickly contained. Crews completed several successful strategic firing operations and improved control lines using dozers and handlines to remove fuels. All control lines are holding well.
“Although we had some fire spotting near some of the corners, our crews were able to quickly contain them,” said Incident Commander Chris Fogle. “All the line we’ve put in so far has continued to hold well, and we’ve been able to close some critical gaps.”
Bremer Fire
Today crews will continue to secure, hold, and improve the control lines created yesterday along the western edge of the fire to keep it away from the community of Willow Creek.
Waterman Fire
Crews will hold and improve the control line along Lone Pine Ridge and Waterman Ridge to prevent fire spread into the Hoopa tribal jurisdiction.
Campbell Fire
Crews will continue to hold and improve the Waterman Ridge system along the south side of the Ridge Road after the strategic firing operations were conducted in the area yesterday. Firefighters are working to keep the fire from the communities of Trinity, Salyer Loop, Salyer Heights and Hawkins Bar.
Amman Fire
Firefighting crews will continue to improve primary control lines to keep the fire west of the O-6 Road, north of Ammon Ridge Road, and east of the O-1 Road. Today crews will reinforce the holding line along the southeast corner near the Six Road off Ammon Ridge and along the Friday Ridge System near the southwestern edge of the fire.
Weather
Warmer, drier weather is expected to increase fire activity today, especially during the afternoon. Smoke will limit visibility during the morning. Aerial firefighting support will be deployed when visibility permits.

INCIDENT INFORMATION
Unified Command: Six Rivers National Forest, CAL FIRE, California Highway Patrol, Trinity County Sheriff and Humboldt County Sheriff.
CURRENT CONDITIONS
The Lightning Complex Fire is currently 13,968 acres with 0% containment. There are 1,400 personnel assigned to the incident. USFS, CIIMT 11 and CAL FIRE continue to work together in order to create a single unified operational plan for firefighters to collectively fight fire and support the communities impacted.
Overnight in the area west of the Bremer Fire burning within the Lightning Complex, firefighters performed firing operations off dozer and handlines to remove fuels to protect homes. Crews will continue to monitor and patrol the fire to look for threats to control lines. If the visibility permits, aviation crews will assist ground firefighters with water drops.
On the northwest side of the Waterman Fire burning within the Lightning Complex, crews had a successful firing operations near the Four Road which held overnight without any challenges. To the north of this fire, resources were able to improve the dozer and handlines towards Horse Linto Creek and will continue to work in this area today. There was another firing operation on the far southeast side which was successful in removing fuels. Fire crews will continue to work in this area. Firefighters will be concentrating on securing the communities near Salyer Loop and Salyer Heights.
On the Campbell Fire burning within the Lightning Complex, resources continue to prep Waterman Road/The Four Road and make a turn towards Zigler Point and toward the community of Trinity. Crews did firing operations in this area that held well without challenges. To the southeastern edge of this fire, dozers put in line above Trinity Village. There were some challenges with spot fires, however fire crews were able to get these spotsand bring them back into the main body of the fire. Nightshift crews were able to improve the lines that were made around spot fires and feel confident about those holding up.
On the west side of the Ammon Fire burning within the Lightning Complex, crews are scouting routes for dozer line that will be put in today. In the southeast corner, prep work continues with no current challenges to the line. Along Ammon Ridge prep work was completed yesterday and firefighters will continue to improve the line without any expected challenges in this area.
To the west side of this fire along Friday Ridge Road progress is slow as there are very thick fuels in this area. Dozer and handlines have been started on the northwest side of this fire and firefighters will continue to work in this area to connect to dozer line that has been put in from the northeast.
Overnight humidity recovery was moderate with values from 40-60% which was much drier than previous nights. Gradual warming and drying in the coming days means the fuels will be more susceptible to burning. The fire will be more active as the inversion lifts. Air operations will be limited due to poor visibility from the inversion layer. This will impact northern areas of the Lightning Complex.
Strategic objectives are to keep the fire north of Ammon Ridge Road, south of Lone Pine Ridge Road, east of the FS-1 road and west of the boundary with the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
EVACUATIONS

INCIDENT INFORMATION
Unified Command: Six Rivers National Forest, CAL FIRE, California Interagency Incident Management Team 11, California Highway Patrol, Trinity County Sheriff, and Humboldt County Sheriff.
CURRENT CONDITIONS
The Lightning Complex Fire is currently 12,375 acres with 0% containment. There are now 1,410 personnel area assigned to the incident. USFS, CIIMT 11 and CAL FIRE continue to work together to create a single unified operational plan for firefighters to collectively fight fire and support the communities impacted.
Overnight firefighters did a good job of maintaining the hard work that was put in by day shift firefighters.
Today firefighters around the southern edge of the Bremer Fire, which is burning within the Lightning Complex, will continue to mop up and improve the handline near the Patterson community, up into the Bigfoot and Peace Tree areas and will work to mitigate the fires spread on the western edge in the direction of Waterman Ridge.
On the Waterman Fire, burning within the Lightning Complex, crews were able to do firing operations that removed fuels along the Waterman Ridgeline until the humidity recovery increased and slowed the firefighters’ ability to remove those fuels. Crews will continue to look for opportunities to improve the prep line. On the north and northwestern edges of this fire, crews will look for areas to directly fight the fire and will utilize aircraft to assist firefighting resources on the ground. On the southeastern area of this fire area, firefighters were able to reduce fuels which will slow the fire’s ability to spread in that direction. Overnight in the Waterman Ridge and Little Quimby areas, dozers were able to complete line and conducted firing operations that are expected to reduce the fire’s spread potential in that area.
On the southeastern area of the Campbell Fire burning within the Lightning Complex, firefighters in the Trinity Village area will continue to improve and hold the line as fire backs down in the Quimby Road and Salyer areas. Crews continue to improve and hold line that has been put in the southern edge of this fire in the Salyer Loop and Campbell Ridge areas.
On the Ammon Fire within the Lightning Complex, firefighters in Ammon Ridge have prepped the southeast corner and will continue to improve the section today. On the southwest corner, crews will continue to work between the Ammon Ridgeline and Route 1. Dozers putting in contingency line will continue to work on the western side of this fire past Friday Ridge to Route 1. Much of the dozer line has already been put into the south and west sides of this fire area.
Weather today will be warmer and dryer than it has been in the last several days and humidity will decrease. Wind is not expected to negatively impact the fire today. Fire behavior is likely to increase for the next few days as the inversion layer lifts earlier and fuels are warmer and dryer. Fire on the ridges in the Lightning Fire Complex will increase today and in the next couple of days due to the warmer and dryer weather conditions.
Strategic objectives are to keep the fire north of Ammon Ridge Road, south of Lone Pine Ridge Road, east of the FS-1 road and west of the boundary with the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
