How do firefighters communicate in such rural and wild spaces? Radios! But how do the radios transmit signals to one another? Learn about repeaters and how they boost firefighters' abilities to communicate with one another by radio. A special group of communication technicians work diligently to install and monitor radio repeaters throughout a wildfire event. Video by Jessica Reed, NW Team 6. Photos taken by Heath Ross on S

We all know that firefighters work on wildland fires, but did you know that some people's entire role on a wildfire assignment is to keep those firefighters safe? Among many types of safety and medical personnel hard at work on wildfires are small groups called Rapid Extraction Modules (REMS). REMS' specialties are extraction and triage medical care. If a firefighter or equipment operator is injured or ill, REMS extract that person as quickly as possible, often using ropes and helicopters.

In this video, Joe Decker, leader of the High Angle REM Team (H.A.R.T.), explains what they are doing to support Grizzly Fire and Brice Creek Fire firefighters.
