Subalpine fir group torching on Division F during the afternoon of August 2, 2024.
Hand crew prepares a road to be used as a containment line on the Boulder Fire.
Torching of subalpine fir patches and the resulting ignition of nearby tree groups has contributed heavily to fire spread on the Boulder fire. When this happens the fire becomes quite difficult to contain. Control lines are placed where fire suppression resources can operate safely. There is also a higher probability of the lines holding through adverse fire conditions.
