Anvil Fire, Flat Fire
Publication Type: News 10/22/2023

Anvil Fire

Size: 22,170 acres       Start Date:  August 25, 2023 Location:  8 miles east of Port Orford, OR
Containment:  80%   Total personnel: 131 Resources: 4 crews, 1 engine

Firefighters took advantage of the favorable weather conditions yesterday allowing for another productive day of work. Crews completed all road repair along the north side of the fire as well as repairing a bridge that was damaged during suppression operations along the southern edge of the fire. Hand crews and heavy equipment completed a majority of the dozer line repair south of China Mountain as well as Forest Service 024 Road. Smoke not related to the fires was present in the area yesterday as a result of local pile burning.

The last of the work including road repair on Bureau of Land Management Road 14 and the remainder of the dozer line repair is on the agenda for today. Crews will continue with cleanup pulling down signage and dismantling the Incident Command Post and fire camp.

After weeks of minimal fire activity followed by close to ten inches of rain, fire suppression repair work is near completion. Several fire resources demobilized yesterday and the remainder of resources, including all incident management personnel, will head home by Sunday.
