Sugarloaf Fire
Publication Type: News 08/08/2022
Current Situation:
Fire behavior yesterday was moderate with some isolated burning of interior pockets of fuel which created a few small visible smoke columns. All fire activity yesterday was well within the established containment lines and crews utilized helicopters with buckets of water to cool these pockets of heat. Crews were able to gain additional containment on the northeast side of the fire bringing containment to 31% and the fire remains 839 acres.
On the west side of the fire in Division Zulu, crews continue to mop up hot spots and patrol the fire line along Cow Creek to further strengthen the fire line. Burning of interior pockets of fuel may continue today producing visible columns of smoke.
On the east side of the fire in Division Alpha, a small number of hot spots remain in the southern part of the division. Hotshot crews continue to patrol and utilize an infra-red drone to locate those hot spots and take suppression action when they can safely access those hot spots.
The Structure Division will continue supporting the other Divisions and completing back haul of materials from indirect fire lines and structure protection.
This will be the last written update for the Sugarloaf Fire. Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team Three will turn the fire back to the Medicine-Bow National Forest at 0700 on Saturday August 6, 2022. All further updates will be posted to Inciweb.nwcg.gov.
