The Vantage Highway Fire is located approximately 5 miles west of Vantage, WA. The Incident Command Post at the Kittitas Fairgrounds in Ellensburg is closed to all but essential personnel to help ensure the health and safety of community members and firefighters.
Weather
Temperatures will increase today, reaching the upper 80s and lower 90s across the Vantage Highway Fire. This warming and drying trend will continue tomorrow, with an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Operations
Yesterday, firefighters patrolled for flare-ups and continued to mop-up to fully extinguish any remaining hot spots smoldering or creeping near the fire perimeter. Containment on the fire increased to 60% today, with the fire fully secured along the southern, eastern, and northern perimeters. Firefighters will be patrolling today to identify and extinguish any remaining hot spots along the western fire perimeter. Resource advisors from the BLM are gathering field data and assessing the impacts of the fire suppression activities to determine what repair work may be required to protect natural resources and minimize the potential for future erosion.
Some resources from the Vantage Highway Fire have been reassigned to the Cow Canyon Fire. Decreasing activity on the Vantage Highway Fire requires fewer firefighters, allowing excess resources and fire crews to be demobilized to rest and refurbish their equipment to be ready to assist other fires in the region.
Vantage Highway is open.
Closures
The Quilomene and Whiskey Dick wildlife area units within the L.T. Murray Wildlife Area are temporarily closed to protect public safety during the Vantage Highway Fire.
