White River and Irving Peak Fires Smoke Outlook August 29, 2022
White River (& Irving Peak)
Publication Type: News 08/30/2022
Fire: The White River and Irving Peak Fires are burning near each other in the White River and Little Wenatchee drainages upstream from Lake Wenatchee. They have burned a total of 2,665 acres and are 1% contained. Firefighters north and east of White River, and south of Irving Peak, are patrolling and prepared if the fire approaches the fire lines. Today the fires are expected to continue slowly backing downhill with isolated flareups in heavy fuel. The Irving Peak Fire should also continue a slow flanking movement to the east along the slope. The Irving Peak Fire should be more active than the White River Fire due to more exposure to the sun and wind.
Smoke: Smoke from yesterday and overnight will have accumulated in the drainages near the fires and Lake Wenatchee. The smoke will be held in place until a strong morning inversion lifts. Up valley winds will then move the smoke upstream toward the divide crest and away from towns in the Wenatchee River valley.
Health and Safety: Smoke may make symptoms worse for people who have pre-existing health conditions or are otherwise sensitive, including: Lung diseases such as asthma, COPD, or emphysema; Respiratory infections; Heart or circulatory problems; People who have had a heart attack or stroke; Infants and children; Adults over age 65; Pregnant women; Smokers.
