Mack Fire Update

Sunday August 6, 2023

4:00 pm

Size: 718 acres

Containment: 100%

Start Date: August 5, 2023

Cause: Unknown at this time

Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance for a wildfire in Wichita County at 5:30 pm where at least ten structures were under threat. Incident Commander Ben Rieck requested crews and equipment from Burkburnett, Mineral Wells, air resources, and resources with Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System Strike Team (TIFMAS) for assistance.

Yesterday:

Fire containment started at 15% when dozers, engines, and ground crews began constructing containment lines with support from air resources to knock down the head and flanks. By 10:00 pm, the fire size was estimated to be 700 acres and 75% contained. Dozer crews completed construction around the fire’s perimeter and forward progression was stopped. Engine crews patrolled and conducted heat suppression within the established containment line until 1:00 am on August 6th.

Today:

Texas A&M Forest Service resources arrived back at the fire around 9:30 am. The fire stayed within the established firelines and there was no new growth over night. After mapping was completed, the fire is 718 acres in size. Dozers will improve containment lines while engine crews conduct heat suppression within the fire lines. The fire is currently 90% contained.

At 4:00 pm, the Mack Fire was 100% contained. Texas A&M Forest Services will be released tonight and the fire command will be transitioned over to the local fire department.
