Pyramid and Slate Fires Daily Update 07-27-2024

Pyramid and Slate Fires
Publication Type: News - 07/27/2024 - 08:40

PYRAMID FIRE:

East of Middle Santiam Wilderness, 963 Acres, 7 Percent Contained, Total Personnel, 344, Lightning Caused

The increase in acreage is due to the fire continuing to burn within the established control line. Yesterday, fire crews used masticators and chippers to widen and improve the outer perimeter control line. Water-scooping planes helped extinguish hot spots on the southeast flank. Today, crews are using the middle Santiam River to hold the fire on the west flank up to the Two Bridges area. Starting near Pyramid Creek, crews are looking for opportunities to construct a direct fire line to the southeast.

SLATE FIRE:

5 miles SW of Detroit, OR, 83 Acres, 9 Percent Contained, Total Personnel, 61, Under Investigation

"Yesterday, firefighters aided by water-dropping helicopters continued to make good progress constructing direct control lines at the fire's edge on the north, west, and south perimeter.  Today, firefighters will continue line construction on the east flank and improve control lines around the rest of the fire.

WEATHER: The weather pattern is expected to remain unchanged, with mostly clear skies, near-normal temperatures and humidity, and typical diurnal winds.
