Bedrock Fire Quick Facts

Size: 31,546 acres                 Origin: Willamette National Forest                  Resources: 47 engines;

Containment: 45%               Cause: Under Investigation                          12 crews; 11 helicopters;

Total personnel: 726            Start Date: July 22, 2023                             10 dozers, 30 water tenders

Bedrock Fire: A virtual community meeting will be held Friday, August 25th, at 5:00 p.m. via Facebook Live on the Bedrock Fire 2023 page. There will be a live question-and-answer session following the presentations. For those who cannot attend, it will be recorded and available for viewing, and we will continue to answer any incoming questions.

Burnout operations on the northwest area of the fire have successfully removed most unburned fuels between primary containment lines and the edge of the fire. Today, crews will focus on identifying hotspots and mopping up within the containment lines in the Little Fall Creek area to strengthen and widen existing firelines. Around the remainder of the fire perimeter, firefighters are increasing the depth of the line, and patrolling where lines are confidently secure.

A red flag warning has been issued today for hot and dry conditions into Friday. “These weather conditions will give us the opportunity to test the firelines. We are confident our diligent work will withstand the weather we will see today,” said Incident Commander Trainee Chris Hutsell.

Last night’s inversion is expected to lift around noon today and hot, dry conditions with the chance of isolated thunderstorms will increase the probability of ignition in unburned fuel. Firefighters are prepared to quickly respond to any increase in fire behavior. Air resources will support all on-ground firefighting activities as visibility allows.

Evacuations: A Level 2 evacuation remains in place on the Bedrock fire. A searchable evacuation map with fire perimeters is on the Bedrock Fire Evacuation Areas. The Red Cross shelter has moved to Westridge Alternative High School in Westfir (46433 Westfir Road). Residents can bring their small, domestic animals. Residents on a Level 2 (Be Set) or Level 3 (GO NOW) evacuation notice who need assistance with large animal evacuation should call Lane County Animal Services (LCAS) at 541-285-8227. LCAS can also help with feeding and watering livestock sheltering in place. If you need large animal sheltering, call LCAS at 541-285-8227 so they can arrange to meet you at the Lane County Fairgrounds (796 W. 13th Avenue, Eugene). You must call before arriving.

Smoke: The daily West-Central Oregon Smoke Outlook provides a detailed air quality forecast for the Bedrock Fire, as well as other nearby fires. Fire and Smoke Map (fire.airnow.gov/) is another source for air quality information.

Weather: There’s a slight chance of isolated dry thunderstorms from Thursday evening into Friday. Winds will be light out of the east. Warm and dry conditions will continue into Friday.

Safety and Closures: The Willamette National Forest implemented an Emergency Area Closure to ensure the safety of the public and personnel working on the fire. The closure maps for the Bedrock Fire are available on InciWeb. For information about road closures, please visit TripCheck.com. There is a Temporary Flight Restriction over the Bedrock Fire area.
