Weather: Near critical fire weather is expected today, with hot dry weather. Temperatures in the 80-90's with humidity in the teens. Near critical fire weather expected again on Thursday with above average temperatures over the holiday weekend. Find smoke information at AirNow.gov.
Big Swamp Fire: Chipping operations and repair to lines on east edge of fire continues today, moving slowly due to steep terrain in that area.
Potter Fire: Snag removal and chipper operations are ongoing. Firefighters will continue with monitor and mop up along direct line over the next couple of days.
Camel Hump Fire: Local firefighter resources will be on patrol in area.
Windigo Fire: Repair and chipping work continues over the next few days.
Resources: 11 hand crews, 10 engines, 4 dozers, 16 water tenders, 2 helicopters. Total personnel 514.
Fire Prevention: With the upcoming Labor Day weekend and near critical fire weather, please be vigilant and help keep the community and our firefighters safe. Check for any fire or public use restrictions in the area prior to your visit. Campfires in designated campgrounds or picnic areas only, in fixed permanent metal fire pits. Closures: The Deschutes and Umpqua National Forests (NF) reduced fire closures around the Windigo fire, opening a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail and other roads and trails. The Willamette NF reduced fire closures around the Big Swamp Fire, opening many roads south of Diamond Drive (Forest Road 21). To provide for public and firefighter safety, the Umpqua NF issued a closure for the Camel Hump Fire. Public Safety: Brushing and chipping along roadsides, falling trees and the use of heavy equipment continues for post-fire suppression repair. You can help keep firefighters and the public safe by adhering to the closure orders until they are officially lifted.
