Umpqua National Forest Issues Closure Order Due to Rocky Ridge Fire

 

ROSEBURG, OR – July 23, 2024 – Effective immediately, Forest Closure Number 06-15-02-24-01 has gone into effect today, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, on portions of the Umpqua National Forest in response to fire activity to protect public and wildland firefighter safety on the Rocky Ridge Fire. This closure, which is in addition to Emergency Fire Closure ORDER NO. 06-15-24-03 on the North Zone of the forest, will mostly impact the Tiller Ranger District. The following acts are prohibited upon trails, roads and general forest areas within the Umpqua National Forest as described below and shown in Exhibit A. This Order is effective beginning July 23, 2024, and ending January 15, 2025, unless rescinded sooner.

 

PROHIBITIONS:

  1. Being on a road. [36 CFR § 261.54 (e)]
  2. Going into or being upon an area closed for the protection of public health and safety. [36 CFR § 261.52 (e)]
  3. Being on a trail. [36 CFR § 261.55(a)]

 

The Rocky Ridge Closure Area is described as an area starting at T27S, R04E, Sec. 32 at the intersection of National Forest System Road 28 (NFSR 28) and NFSR 2715-950, then following NFSR 2715-950 Southeast to the junction with Forest Service Trail (FST) 1477, then generally South on FST 1477 to the junction with FST 1470, then Southwest following FST 1470 to the junction of FST 1470 and the Umpqua National Forest boundary in the NE ¼ of the SW ¼ of T29S, R3E, Sec 2 and then following the Umpqua National Forest boundary South to the junction with FST 1470 in the SW ¼ of the SW ¼ of T29S, R3E, Sec 15 and then following FST 1470 Southeasterly to junction of FST 1437 then generally West along FST 1437 to the junction with FST 1437A then South along FST 1437A to the junction with NFSR 2900-550 then following NFSR 2900-550 Southwest to the junction with NFSR 29 then on the Northeast shoulder of NFSR 29 to the junction with NFSR 2830, then following NFSR 2830 North and Northwest to the junction with NFSR 2823 and then Northeasterly along NFSR 2823 to the junction with NFSR 28 then following NFSR 28 Northeasterly back to the point of origin at the intersection of NFSR 28 and NFSR 2715-950.

 

The following trailheads fall within the closure area: Castle Creek Trailhead; Skimmerhorn Trailhead; Fish Lake Trailhead; Beaver Swamp Trailhead; Acker Divide Trailhead. An exception to this closure area is Forest Service Road 29 which will remain open adjacent to the closure area. All other roads and trails bounding the closure area are inaccessible.
