Highlights: Containment has increased to 92% due to suppression work by firefighters and monsoonal rain showers. The Camino Real Ranger District on the Carson National Forest and Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District on the Santa Fe National Forest will remain closed as firefighters continue to work on suppression repair across the entire fire area. North Zone (SWIMT3): The fire has not had any movement in the uncontained western side. Firefighters continue fixing fences and repairing roads from suppression efforts in Mora, Holman, Guadalupita, Chacon, along the NM Highway 518 and 434 corridors, and in other areas as well. The entire northern fire area has received rainfall from the recent storms which has tempered the heat inside the fire perimeter. Flash floods are still a concern in San Miguel and Mora Counties. A rapid response crew assigned to the incident has been monitoring waterways for debris build-up, and are available for emergency response to protect life and property. Saturated roadways are preventing firefighters from accessing areas of the fire and are also impacting the ability to remove heavy equipment from those areas. Firefighters will continue to assist with any new fire starts in the temporary flight restriction area of the fire.
South Zone (SWIMT5): Yesterday crews were able to increase containment on some of the interior islands of the western edge of the fire east of Geronimo. Aerial resources are mostly grounded due to weather and are expected to be limited today as moisture continues. Crews will continue to work on containment and suppression repair as weather allows. Southwest Incident Management Team 5 will be transferring command of the south zone of the fire to Great Basin Incident Management Team 7 at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28. Weather: The active weather pattern will continue through today before a brief period of quieter weather moves in. Locally heavy rain remains possible through the afternoon which could result in flooding of low-lying areas as well as debris flows in high-intensity burn scar areas. Drier conditions will return beginning Tuesday with isolated afternoon showers and storms remaining possible through Thursday.
