Grant County OEM would like to provide an update on the Trout Fire. PNM has extended the PSPS Power shut off at the request of the USFS for the safety of their crews. Power has been shut for all communities along Hwy 35 and 15 from the Wilderness Ranger Station to the Cliff Dwellings until at least 1600 Monday afternoon. It is estimated that 375 customers will be impacted. The Sapillo VFD Station and the Upper Mimbres VFD Thunderbird Station have back-up generators if residents need electricity to charge devices. Hwy 35 is under a hard closure, NO civilian traffic will be allowed in and residents that leave will not be allowed to return.
The latest information on the fire is attached in a press release, along with the latest evacuation zones map. Yellow boxes/zones are in “Set” mode and green boxes/zones are in “Go” mode.
EVACUATION UPDATES
Zone 5 – GO! – Residents of the Cliff Dwellings area are advised to immediately evacuate the area via Highway 35 towards Mimbres, NM. The electricity has been cut off along the HWY 35 corridor. Residents are encouraged to use care as there will be additional fire traffic in the area. An evacuation shelter is available at the Grant County Convention Center, 3031 US-180, Silver City, NM 88061. High Desert Humane Society will accommodate pets, and the rodeo grounds at the Southwest Horseman's Association are open to receive livestock.
Zone 4, 8, and 9 – SET – The Mimbres-Bear Dam communities are now in SET status. Please be aware that the Trout Fire has continued to grow throughout the day, and these statuses may update with little to no notice. Now is the time to make all necessary preparations should it move into a GO status.
The Grant County OEM will provide more updates as they are received.
