Hilger Valley Fire Update 06-10-2025

Hilger Valley Fire
Publication Type: News - 06/10/2025 - 13:40

Key Message:

Multiple aircraft will be scooping water from Holter Lake to support firefighting efforts. Fire managers ask that the boaters stay clear of aircraft during these operations for safety.

Current Status:

The DNRC County Assist Team assumed command of the Hilger Valley Fire on Monday evening, June 9.

The fire was first reported at 2:10 p.m, on June 9, burning in open timber and grass. DNRC responded with every available resource including engines, hand crews, smokejumpers, air tankers, and helicopters to aggressively attack the fire in coordination with local, state, and federal partners.

The fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy. Firefighters are building containment lines using a combination of crews, engines, hose lays, and bulldozers. These lines are being reinforced by the retardant line applied on Monday. Helicopters continue to drop water along the fire’s edge to strengthen containment lines and cool hotspots along the fire’s edge.

Weather and Fire Behavior

Fire behavior is moderate with creeping and isolated tree torching. Today’s weather is sunny with a high of 86 degrees. There is a chance of late afternoon thunderstorms, which may produce strong, gusty winds. This could contribute to increased fire activity.

Evacuations and CLOSURES

There are no evacuations or closures are in affect. The public is asked to avoid the area for their safety and the safety of fire personnel.
