Four Corners PM Update August 18

Four Corners Fire
Publication Type: News 08/22/2022

Activity on the Four Corners Fire increased this afternoon, pushing the fire primarily to the east, toward Lake Cascade.  The fire has crossed the ridge at the head of Silver Creek and the 435 Road.  Water scooping aircraft dropped water on the flames to support firefighting resources working on the ground.  More accurate mapping will occur this evening and an updated acreage will be available in the morning.

At this time, the Valley County Sheriff has issued evacuation orders (Go) for area residents of God’s Acres and French Creek.  The Sheriff’s Office is closing the area and making notifications through Code Red.  Please evacuate immediately if you are asked to in the direction you are asked to leave.  All residents at French Creek and south are advised to leave via the south.  And those north of French Creek should leave to the north.  Additional firefighting resources are responding to the area and will also be on the roadways.

A pre-evacuation alert (Set) was given to residents in the Campbell Creek area.  These residents should be ready to leave immediately if asked.  Homeowners should be prepared to leave as quickly as possible should the fire continue to grow and necessitate additional evacuations.

Packing tips and other information can be found at https://www.wildlandfirersg.org/.  Packing should include the six Ps:

  • People and pets

  • Papers, phone numbers, and important documents

  • Prescriptions, vitamins, and eyeglasses

  • Pictures and irreplaceable memorabilia

  • Personal computer hard drive and disks

  • “Plastic” (credit cards, ATM cards) and cash

Please be aware that water scooping aircraft continue to use the southernmost section of Lake Cascade to scoop water for dropping on the fire.  Boaters should be cautious on the water and aware that the aircraft may use other areas of the lake as needed.  Additionally, the aircraft have drawn attention from viewers parking along Lakeshore Drive.  Use caution when traveling through the area.

Closure:  For the safety of firefighters and the public, the Payette and Boise National Forests enacted an area closure order today.  The complete closure order – including a full description of the trails, roads, and areas closed and an accompanying map – is available at https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/closures/8331/.
