Publication Type: News 09/08/2022
Summary: The Sawtell Peak fire is under the command of Wyoming Type 3 Team 5. The Sawtell Peak Fire is currently 37 acres, with 80% containment and 66 personnel assigned to the incident.
Yesterday: Crews continued to build and strengthen containment lines, mitigate snags and mop-up. Approximately 2,000 feet of hose was back hauled by helicopter from the fire. The main hose (trunk line) will remain available to firefighters if needed. Resource advisors finalized the resource mitigation plan for the fire area and incident command post.
Today: Fire personnel will continue to build and strengthen containment lines. The incoming Type 4 team (Caribou-Targhee National Forest) will be shadowing today and assume command this evening at 1800. They will begin to implement the finalized rehab plan. A grader and water tender will begin reworking the Sawtell Road to return to standard.
Weather: Yesterday’s approaching low-pressure system brought strong winds and a trace of moisture to the fire area. A red flag warning is in effect for today. Temperatures will be slightly cooler but gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms are in the forecast.
Closure Order: A Forest Closure Order remains in effect to protect public health and safety from the effects of the Sawtell Peak Fire.
Thank You Message: The Wyoming Type 3 Team 5 wishes to thank the community and cooperators of Island Park for their cooperation, hospitality, and hard work. This is a great community! We hope that this incident can keep the conversation going about defensible space and the wildland urban interface.
