What is the Medical Unit?

Spring Creek Fire
Publication Type: News 07/06/2023

The number one priority on any fireline is firefighter safety. Prevention is the primary mechanism to keep firefighters safe. However, when injury or illness occurs, the Medical Unit has line paramedics and EMTs who administer initial medical care and ensure they receive, if needed, advanced medical care.

The Medical Unit comes to an incident prepared to help firefighters with anything from small blisters to critical injury. Local resources provide knowledge to establish the best staging areas for medical personnel in the field, where risk of injury may be high. They also assist with identifying the most efficient route to access an injured firefighter. This collaboration allows for incident medical staff to quickly build relationships with local hospitals.

The Spring Creek Fire is extremely fortunate to have support of the Grand Valley Fire Protection District. They have helped medical operations run smoothly by providing local knowledge and being an extra hand for the team. Thank you to our Medical Unit for keeping firefighters healthy!
