Dolores District: Boggy Draw Units Prescribed Fire Underway

2024 San Juan National Forest Prescribed Fire Program
Publication Type: News 11/03/2023

The San Juan NF Dolores District has started a prescribed burn about 5 miles NE of Dolores in the Boggy Draw area.  If you see smoke coming from that area, please do NOT call 911.

The fuels reduction project involves 2 burn units with a total of 1,094 acres, and will last 1-2 days. Crews from the Dolores District as well as other local and regional fire agencies are on site, helping to carry out the burn project and keep it within defined boundaries.

Winds early today are carrying smoke to the East, but evening breezes are forecast to come from the North, meaning  smoke may also settle into low lying valleys and the Dolores River Canyon overnight.

The prescribed burn is part of the continued effort to reduce the load of ground fuels, improve forest health and lower the risk of future catastrophic fire. More details are available on this Inciweb page, or on the San Juan NF Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/sanjuannationalforest
