CURRENT SITUATION: North Coast Interagency Incident Management Team (NCIMT) assumed command of the incident

at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. The 15 fires are being held within the lines and total containment is at 75%

with the total acres burned at 50,198. The wet conditions have been favorable in moderating the fire activity but

create additional challenges for personnel. Due to the recent rain precipitation, key personnel are inspecting road

conditions to assess their suitability for crew operations. It was concluded that some roads were in such a hazardous

state that sending crews and equipment would pose a risk of ecological damage.

Crews will continue with extensive suppression repair and road repair work. Chipping operations, scouting, and

surveying is occurring across all Divisions. Positive attitudes, hard work and diligent focus by firefighters

continues. Long hours spent by heavy equipment operators and crews on the ground ensure the ability to maintain

the cultural and natural resources of the area.

As the incident transitions to Suppression Repair, NCIMT will work closely with Resource Advisors to minimize

impacts to communities, cultural and natural resources, natural resources including critical power, communications

and other infrastructure, private property inholdings, Tribal Lands, Timber Lands, TESC Species, and watersheds.

All resources will take advantage of opportunities as weather permits to meet the objectives of the suppression

repair plan.

This written update will be distributed every other day. If fire conditions intensify, this update will return to being

distributed as often as necessary.

WEATHER: Widespread rain Wednesday brought beneficial moisture to the area, with rainfall amounts totaling

0.35”. Today will be sunny with a high near 77. North winds will reach 5 to 10 mph, becoming light in the

afternoon, Partly cloudy most of the day, with a low around 49. Light and variable wind will become east southeast

around 6 mph in the evening.

CLOSURES: While county roads remain open, some Six Rivers National Forest lands, roads, and trails around the

Smith River Complex fires are closed (Forest Order No. 10-23-12). View the Order and closure map on the Forest’s
