CURRENT SITUATION
The Deep Fire is currently mapped at 4,186 acres and is 60% contained.
On the morning of September 1st, the Deep Fire was calculated to be at 4,186 acres with 60% containment with an official incident hand off to Nevada Interagency Management Team 5 from CA-IMT-10. As the new team takes the reins, fire behavior has been moderated by cooler temperatures, an increase in relative humidity overnight, and rain showers. High humidity remains today with the chance of showers on the fire throughout the day into tomorrow. The incoming weather brings the potential of thunderstorms and erratic winds in the afternoon, but the wet conditions help reduce the chance of ignitions from lightning.
For today, mop up and securing the perimeter continues along the Stuart Fork Trail to ensure the western fire perimeter stays east of the trail. Crews will continue mop up along containment lines on the west, south, and east side of the fire and monitor hot spots from downed burning snags that remain smoldering. Last night, resources were pulled off direct engagement in the northern flanks due to inclement weather activity, but the team will seek opportunities to re-engage crews on the northern fire edge today to limit spread along Little Salt Creek. Fire activity does continue in the northeastern edge of the fire, but growth is limited as the fire burns into higher elevation rock outcroppings.
Repair work along contingency lines and roads continues with the help of resource advisors. This work is also conducted along trails and handlines to ensure wilderness characteristic remain after fire suppression efforts. Wet conditions aid with reducing fire activity on lighter fuels including leaf litter, small sticks, and branches, however the larger woody debris still maintain heat. Burned trees, debris flow, log roll out, and slick roads are safety concerns for firefighters with the incoming weather.
