2023 - York Fire
Publication Type: News 07/29/2023
The York Fire is currently at 3,842 acres. The west side of the fire is holding within the rocks, which means that the fire's spread is currently limited in that area. On the east side, the fire remains active and is backing into the wind. "Backing" refers to the direction of fire movement against the wind, which often results in slower fire spread compared to the behavior of the fire when it is spreading with the wind. Because the fire is backing into the wind the fire behavior is diminishing, which indicates that the fire is becoming less intense or aggressive in its growth.
There is currently 92 personnel working on this fire including air resources. The ground personnel are working tirelessly to construct fire lines, extinguish flames and limit the fire's advancement. While air resources will work on creating fire breaks to slow down the fire spread by dropping water or fire retardant.
There are no current evacuations or closures at this time.
