River Complex

The River Complex is primarily burning in mixed conifer Douglas-fir and ponderosa pine forests, and hardwood vegetative communities. There are known Threatened or Endangered, Forest Service sensitive, or other rare species present within the area and are directly affected by the fire or suppression efforts. Notable species are Coho and Chinook salmonids, northern spotted owl, Pacific fisher, American martin, goshawk, peregrine falcon, and a small, but expanding Roosevelt elk herd.

 There are not any endangered plant species within the fire area; however, many FS sensitive species exist, along with a multitude of rare fungi. Noxious weeds are also present in the fire affected area (prior to ignition) and have high potential to be spread by suppression activities.

 For cultural resources in the fire area: the Karuk Tribe aboriginal territory.

 For recreation, wilderness, wild and scenic river resources and associated activities: The fire is currently affecting Trinity Alps Wilderness values, the Pacific Crest Trail, numerous developed campgrounds, Forest Service administrative infrastructure, the Salmon Wild & Scenic River, and scenic resource values. In addition to recreation, local communities, Forest Service timber sales, private timber holdings, and grazing allotments are threatened, which influence and affect the local economy, jobs, and the local population.
