River Complex Fire update 08.09.2021

River Complex 2021
Publication Type: News 08/10/2021

Fires within the River Complex grew by 1,888 acres on Sunday. Fire behavior is smoldering and creeping under a strong nighttime inversion and a heavy smoke layer. The Haypress Fire grew by approximately 1,019 acres for total acreage of 16,620. The Summer Fire grew approximately 716 acres from the previous day for total acreage of 9,078. The Cronan Fire grew approximately 153 acres the previous day for a total acreage of 1,365 acres. Total acreage for the complex is 27,076 acres with containment remaining at 5%.

The Snow fire was added to the River Complex Saturday night. A crew of smoke jumpers were inserted Sunday afternoon and are taking suppression action on that fire.

Fire Behavior: The fire behavior consisted mostly of low to moderate backing and flanking off ridges into the South, East, and North Forks of the Salmon River.

Planned Actions Today: Critical operations are to connect and complete the holding line south from the Cecilville Road along Fish Creek and Rush Creek to Caribou Road before fire reaches these areas. The natural barriers in the Fish Creek and Rush Creek areas provide the highest probability of success in keeping the fire from impacting the residences in Coffee Creek and the town of Coffee Creek.

Weather: A weak front cleared out much of the high-level drift smoke, although smoke lingered in the steeper drainages. Marginally cooler temperatures were observed behind the boundary. High pressure will build into the region this week with hot and dry conditions returning to the region.

Evacuation Orders: Siskiyou County has issued evacuation ORDERS for the communities of Cecilville, Summerville and Petersburg. An evacuation order means there is immediate threat to life and is a lawful order to leave immediately. The area is closed to public access.

Evacuation Warnings: Siskiyou County has issued evacuation WARNING for the community of Sawyers Bar. An evacuation warning means there is a potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.

Road Closures: The Callahan-Cecilville Road is closed from approximately one mile West of the community of Callahan to Cecilville. The Sawyers Bar Road is closed from Forks of Salmon to Forest Road 40N51.

Priorities remain protection of identified values at risk within the complex and all fires are planned for full suppression.
