CORDUROY FIRE


Start Date: July 12, 2023, Location: 20 Miles SW Alpine, Percent Contained: 86, Size: 1,027 acres, Cause: Lightning, Vegetation: Timber (Litter and Understory) Medium Logging Slash, Resources Assigned: 2 Engines, 2 Crews, 1 Dozer, 1 Water tender.


Operations: Firefighting resources continue to patrol and monitor the perimeter to identify and mitigate any threats to containment lines. Rehabilitation needs are being evaluated to repair any damages, minimize soil erosion, and offset any adverse impacts from fire suppression activities.


BOUNDARY FIRE


Start Date: July 27, 2023, Location: 30 Miles SW of Alpine, Percent Contained: 35, Size: 929 acres, Cause: Lightning, Vegetation: Timber (Litter and Understory) Brush, Resources Assigned: 2 Engines.


Operations: Firefighters have established multiple contingency lines in alignment with existing road systems to keep the fire to the north of the 2059B and east of the 2000D roads. One of the top priorities is to minimize adverse effects to commercial timber stands within the 130-acre footprint of the Boundary fire on San Carlos land.


WILLOW FIRE


Start Date: July 27, 2023, Location: 12 Miles SW of Alpine, Percent Contained: 18, Size: 401 acres, Cause: Lightning, Vegetation: Timber (Grass and Understory) Medium Logging Slash, Resources Assigned: 4 Crews, 4 Engines, 1 Dozer.


Operations: Firefighters have finished cold trailing, a method of inspecting and feeling with the hand to detect any heat, along the perimeter of the fire. Resources will now look to identify fire suppression repair work that will be needed.


Closures: Chipping operations have been completed and highway 191 was reopened at 8:00pm on August 11th.


Weather: Today’s forecast is calling for afternoon thunderstorms with an 80% chance of rain, a high of 63 degrees, and 5-10mph winds with higher gusts near approaching storm fronts.


Values at risk: Sensitive species in surrounding areas, cattle and grazing areas, watersheds, riparian areas, impacts to Highway 191, Hannagan Lodge, and nearby electric powerlines.
