Riley Fire
Publication Type: News - 07/13/2024 - 12:00

HEALY, Alaska – Firefighters have closed the remaining small gap in the fire line, and it is now at 100% containment.  Today’s work will be to ensure that a 300-foot buffer around the perimeter is free of any remaining hot spots.  Additionally, fire line rehabilitation measures, such as water diversion bars along the fires edge have been completed.  Smoke may be visible within the interior of the fire, especially with increased southerly winds anticipated today.

Normal operations remain in effect at Denali National Park and Preserve. Denali National Park Tours Doyon/Aramark Joint Venture and the National Park Service have welcomed visitors back. Some areas, however, are closed due to firefighting support activities.

Area closures include:

  • Riley Creek Campground

  • Riley Creek Day Use Area

  • Horseshoe Lake Trail

  • Mt. Healy Overlook Trail

Trail and campground closures are expected to re-open in the coming days pending firefighting activity completion. Visit the Denali National Park and Preserve website for additional information. The incident information line will no longer be active starting today, for fire information contact Denali National Park at: 907-683-9532, 9 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., daily.

Weather: Southerly winds will continue Saturday, averaging 20 MPH and gusting to 30 MPH. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
