Sun and the Lookout Fire

Westerly winds moving through Oregon today are drifting smoke from the fires over the Cascade Crest and into Central Oregon. Heaviest smoke impacts are in the uppermost section of the McKenzie drainage, Sisters, and into Bend and Redmond. UNHEALTHY conditions are forecast today for these areas with some improvement this evening and into tomorrow as winds scour smoke out.

For McKenzie Bridge, Blue River, Oakridge, and the Willamette Valley, improving air quality conditions are being seen with the weather shift and should remain in GOOD to MODERATE air quality through the work week.

Highest smoke impacts from the Lookout Fire remain for the McKenzie River drainage and Blue River due to its close proximity to the fire. Air Quality is forecast to reach HAZARDOUS levels again in the drainage midday before improving slightly in the evening. An increase in westerly winds over the region is beginning to drift smoke back into Central Oregon. These communities, such as Sisters and Redmond, are likely to see USG to UNHEALTHY conditions today and into Monday. For the Willamette Valley, smoke impacts are improving and generally MODERATE air quality is expected.

NOTE: Additional smoke impacts are being seen in all of western Oregon due to new fire starts from Thursday night's thunderstorm activity.
