Pile Burning Postponed Indefinitely

Pile burning in the Highway 150 Wildland Urban Interface Project is postponed. Crews attempted to begin work on December 2, but encountered conditions not conducive to burning down fuels. The piles will be treated at a later time, which could be in fall/winter 2024 after the recently cut piles have had more time to dry out.”

Dec. 1, 2023-Fire crews opted to delay ignitions due to this morning's snowstorm. They are currently pile burning near San Cristobal and may return to Highway 150 this afternoon.
Pile Burning Could Begin as Early as Dec. 1

Fire crews are planning to potentially begin pile burning along and near Highway 150 from Valdez, N.M., to the Taos Ski Valley area as early as Friday, Dec. 1. Piles near San Cristobal, N.M., are also under consideration. Both areas are within the wildland urban interface, where human development intermingles with the forest.
